The inaugural travel festival revealed the winners at a curated public exhibition gallery. in the Cambridge Guildhalls, alongside winners from the JRNY Travel Magazine World Travel Photography Awards 2024.
CAMBRIDGE, U.K. (1st December 2024): The Cambridge Travel Festival is delighted to announce the winners and runners-up of the Cambridge Travel Festival Photo Competition 2024, celebrating the incredible artistry and storytelling of photographers from the East of England. This year’s competition attracted over 500 entries that captured the essence of travel, cultural diversity, and breathtaking landscapes.
The grand prize for the Travel Photo of the Year was awarded to Victoria Andrews for her captivating wildlife image of a Wild European Black Bellied Hamster, taken in Austria. The photograph mesmerised the judges who commented ‘it’s a lovely image of this tiny creature, perfect position within the frame with the use of negative space to the right’

Winner – Victoria Andrews for an image captioned ‘Wild European Black Bellied Hamster’, taken in Austria.
Runner-up – Simon Shore for an image captioned ‘Bleeding Heart Monkey’, taken in Ethiopia.
LANDSCAPE
Winner – Justin Minns for an image captioned ‘A thick frost coating the River Stour valley, on a very still morning’, taken in Suffolk, U.K.
Runner-up – Gareth Goldthorpe for an image captioned ‘The highlands of Iceland’, taken in Iceland.
CITIES
Winner – Richard Bircham for an image captioned ‘The Hemispheric’, taken in Valencia, Spain.
Runner-up – Antony Bunker for an image captioned ‘Amsterdam Canal’, taken in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
PEOPLE
Winner – Maggie O’Moore for an image captioned ‘Stilt Walker in Deadvlei Sand Dunes’, taken in Namibia.
Runner-up – Sayantan Datta for an image captioned ‘An Old Lady of Bhutan’, taken in Bhutan.
“We were overwhelmed by the calibre of submissions in our inaugural year,” said Byron Shirto, Festival Director. “Our judges really had a tough job, as each photo told a unique story that inspires us to travel and see the world from new perspectives. It’s truly a testament to the power of photography to connect and inspire.”

The Cambridge Travel Festival Photo Competition was judged by a panel of independent judges: Kav Dadfar – JRNY Travel Magazine, Jordan Banks – Jordan Banks Photography, Nori Jemil – Nori Jemil Photography, Owen Howell – Campkins Cameras, Allan Hale – Cambridge Camera Club, and Penny Reeves – Swavesey Camera Club.
